Town: GENZANO DI ROMA

The due Torri hill (415 metres above the sea level) towers over the nearby cultivated land. It is characterized by rich woods, with high trunk trees. This cone-shaped hill is the result of the first phase of eruptions of the Campi di Annibale's volcano. It belongs as a reserve to the Parco Regionale dei Castelli Romani.

Area's natural characteristics
While seeing this hill what is really astonishing is the different type of vegetation growing along the slopes. Moving from the northern slope towards the southern one there are caduceus oaks, English oaks and evergreen ilexes. The southern side, exposed to the sun and to the winds blowing from the sea, it is characterized by bushes of brooms called “Scopiglia” in the Castelli Romani Area. As the diffusion of the broom it is concerned, it has to be considered that this kind of plant grows very well in the volcanic area, and particularly in those areas destroyed by fires and disforestation, as it is a ‘pioneer' plant. The fauna is characterized by those species typical of woods: blackcaps, tits, and great titmice, robins and blackbirds. From this hill it is possible to watch swallows and house-martins. At the entrance of the farm-holiday ‘Monte due Torri', there is a pond, where dozens of birds belonging to these two kinds circle. It is easy to recognize the swallow: it flies near the ground and has a forked tail, black and bluish plumage on its back and red feathers on the throat. The house-martins have the same black plumage on the back, but on the tail has a white spot. These two kinds eat flying insects, very common near the water.
