Towards the end of the 16th century
the religious Association “Compagnia del SS. Sacramento”
thanks to the funds raised with the contribution of the Savelli
Family and of the common people built a church consecrated to
the Madonna della Neve. This church is very small in size, and
it consists of a nave and two adjoining rooms, one for the priest
and one for wayfarers. In 1660 the marquis Zenobio Baldinotti,
a very religious man, ordered important restoration works, which
transformed completely the sanctuary. He repaired and widened
the church, embellishing it with ornaments and vestments, building
a sacristy, two rooms, a cellar, a barn, and a wide room for pilgrims.
In 1464 the Apostolic Chamber instituted in the church a chaplainship.
The 5th August 1860 the Pallottini Priests settled in the convent,
creating a novitiate.
The façade, made of peperino stone and bricks, was built
in 1858, in pure neoclassic style, with a round stained glass
window in its high part. The interior consists of a nave with
five arches on each side, ending in a wide apse. This is decorated
with a painting, a copy of that representing the Madonna and
the Bambino preserved in the Pauline Chapel in the Church of
Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. The church was restored in 1938
and in 1958.
