The church was consecrated to San Pietro
and built in 1598-1636 from the architect Ottavio Nonni called
‘il Mascherino'.
The monumental façade in baroque was designed by Girolamo
Fontana, who built it later in 1698. It is featured by two superimposed
different styles decorated with columns made of spur stone and
four niches with the statues of San Sebastiano, San Giacomo,
San Filippo and San Rocco. Over the portal there is an high
relief representing ‘Gesù che rimprovera San Pietro'(Jesus
while he is reproaching S. Pietro) by B. Cometti.
The Latin cross shaped interior has a nave and two aisles.
Over the arches there is a great cornice supporting the vault.
The side chapels are decorated with paintings of the 16th and
17th century and with older paintings coming from other religious
buildings.
