It was built on a previous building
by the pope Clement VIII Aldobrandini, who gave this villa to
his nephew, the cardinal Pietro. The structure is the work of
the architect G. della Porta who built also the ‘Teatro
delle acque' (fountains with statues and choreographic jets
of waters), ended by G. Fontana and C. Maderno.
Built between the end of the 16th century and at the beginning
of the 17th century it preserves in its interior frescos painted
by Cavalier d'Arpino and Domenichino, who also decorated
the Sala d'Apollo to the right of the nymphaeum.
